Just a Penny...
I hope you enjoy this short video. I made it to, hopefully, remind you about the beauty and value of those around us...
If you look close enough, you can find them just about everywhere you go. People drop them all the time. And they don’t usually pick them up...because it’s “just a penny”. Most of us don’t consider pennies valuable. Especially when they are dirty. Or scratched up and defaced. Or “heads down, tails up”. In fact, pennies are so insignificant to most of us that our current administration is saying that it doesn’t make sense anymore to make any more cents.
So, we go on. We overlook pennies laying on the ground. We ignore them. We pass by each one. We leave them behind.
Why do I stop and pick up pennies? Because they still have value. And each one reminds me that all people everywhere have value. And sometimes I have to go out of my way to find them. Even if they are dirty. Or scratched up, scarred and defaced. Or “heads down, tails up”.
The key is looking. But it takes time to look. Let’s face it, most of us are in such a hurry that we don’t have time to look...especially for pennies.
Most of us will always stop for what we consider valuable.
Just like every penny, each person that we meet has value. Everyone has a story. If we will only slow down and SEE. If we will only take time to HEAR.
As far as “just pennies” goes, one penny, a 1943-D Lincoln, bronze wheat penny was sold for $1.7 million in a private sale in 2010. And today, that same penny is reported to be worthy $2.3 million!! And the reason that it was so valuable – it was considered a “mistake”. An “accident”!
Who knows? That “mistake”. That “accident”. That “heads down, tails up”, dirty, disfigured person that you try not to see every day might be an angel sent from heaven. It could be Jesus in disguise.
How much value does that next person you meet have? How willing are you to go out of your way to see them? Are you willing to look past the surface and the surroundings and see – them?! How willing are you to truly listen to them? To actually love them in deed and in truth, not just with our lips and our words?
"I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!" - Matthew 25:40
And if you happen to be that one who feels like you are an “accident” or that your life is a “mistake”, please know that you are precious. You have value. Your Father in Heaven had dreams and plans for you before you were formed in your mother’s womb. You were knit together “fearfully and wonderfully” in your mother’s womb. He called you by name before you were born. And He paid a horrible price with His own life and every drop of His blood to buy you back and to give you a new life.
And If you feel dirty, or if you have been scarred by life, I pray that you will know that Jesus sees you. If you find yourself “heads down, tails up”, be sure that Jesus is waiting. He longs to listen to you. He loves you — way more than you can ever imagine! You are WAAAY more valuable than a 1943-D Lincoln, bronze wheat penny!!
Thanks for walking together with us! We’d be blessed and honored if you would be praying for us. God willing, I leave in a few days to carry the cross in Africa. Thanks so much! God bless you!!
